Janet M. Hock, B.D.S., Ph.D. is Executive Director, Maine Institute for Human Genetics and Health, a collaborative cancer research venture between EMHS, U Maine and The Jackson Lab, implemented in January 2007. Previously, she was Vice President Global Research, and Chief Scientific Officer for Aastrom Biosciences 2004-2006, responsible for clinical trials and translational research on autologous bone marrow-derived stem cells. From 2000-2006, she was Professor, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, School of Medicine, and Professor, Department of Periodontics, School of Dentistry, at Indiana University, Indianapolis. She was program director and founder of Indiana University Cancer Center Bone Cancers Research program. From 1992 to 1999, she was employed by Eli Lilly and Company as Senior Research Advisor for Product Development, Head of the Bone Formation Group, Director of the Skeletal Diseases Research Group, and Product Team Research Advisor/Chief Scientific Officer. Dr. Hock’s responsibilities included product development, preclinical pharmacology, drug discovery and development, regulatory, patent strategy, and formation of research alliances. Dr. Hock contributed to the successful clinical development of 2 FDA-approved, important new drug treatments for osteoporosis: Evista® and Forteo®. Dr. Hock holds L.D.S. (RCS); B.D.S. (D.D.S. equivalent), Ph.D. (Medicine) Univ London, UK; M.Sc. (Oral Diagnosis) & Clinical Certificate in Periodontology Univ Iowa; Univ London, UK. Since 1977, Dr. Hock has served as peer reviewer and consultant to NIH, U.S. DVA, U.S. Dpt Defense and USDA. She has over 110 publications.
